Reading was a popular activity as well as
dancing. Dancces may have been held in dance halls around the towns. Other
popular leisure activities were things such as sporting events, and live
theatres, these activities were very popular for the working class. A wealthier
families form of entertainment would be the piano, or listening to music
through the Edison phonograph. The middle class families popular leisure
activity would be a picnic, in the decade before war, surfing was also very
popular. Life for the working class wasn’t the best, they worked long hours and
even then they still wouldn’t have the funds or time for lesure activities. The
middle and upper classes on the other hand were more wealthy, and they had more
time and money for leisure activities.

In this picture there seems to be a family at
the Botanical Gardens, which i am guessing is there family outting. I can see what
looks to be a mother and her children, the mother is wearing a long dress and a
broad brim hat, the kids i think are also wearing their ‘good clothes’ as they
are on a family outting. They are wearing broad brim hats and the girls
dresses, and the boys long sleeve shirts and knee length
